Translational Psychometrics for Psychosocial Change in Refugees: Assessment of Psychosocial Dimensions of Mental Health Following Humanitarian Crisis

Overview

This application will support University of York researchers and newly arrived staff from a range of disciplines to work together for the first time as collaborators in conjunction with a humanitarian organization. The shared interest across researchers and disciplines lies in the practical assessment of psychosocial aspects of mental health in refugees in the wake of humanitarian crisis. This is an often neglected but pressing health need that is overshadowed by the more visible physical health problems. The research has three aims:

i) to conduct a scoping review of existing assessments of psychosocial aspects of mental health in humanitarian settings and an evaluation of how relevant they are to refugee population:

ii) to establish cooperation with a humanitarian organization, both for disseminating results of this work and more importantly to have a partner for further collaboration in response to specific funding calls

iii) in situ evaluation to improve the assessment and management of mental health problems in humanitarian crisis settings
