Grade 6

At Grade 6 you are likely to be:

  • Providing daily operational management, advice and troubleshooting for the computing system(s) in the department/ centre/ service/ unit; this includes assistance to end users on both hardware systems and software applications; deliver a customer focussed service
  • Installing, upgrading and maintaining software and associated hardware; applying operating system and related software upgrades and patches
  • Co-ordinating computer systems to ensure integration with existing University infrastructure
  • Providing advice and assistance in the purchase and installation of software and hardware systems within the department/ centre/ service/ unit
  • Providing technical leadership and vision for developing systems; assist in the selection, testing and implementation of new and existing software solutions
  • Providing high-level technical expertise in IT software, hardware or operations
  • Managing projects for ongoing development of the IT infrastructure
  • Participating in departmental projects as required
  • Providing documentation, training and advice to support service cover by other team members
  • Providing training and advice to end-users of systems in line with the team’s support process; develop and deliver training courses for new and existing software packages and related applications; write course materials, technical reference information and self-help materials
  • Collaborating with colleagues across the University to contribute to effective delivery of services
  • Maintaining up to date knowledge of technical developments and best practice in specialist area
