Speaker(s): Dr Istvan Cziegler, Dr Andrew Higginbotham & Dr James Dedrick

YPI Christmas Lecture

Last year we introduced the YPI Christmas Lecture to our seminar series as an opportunity to gain an insight into research taking place within our own community. This year we are pleased to announce that the event will take place once again. The YPI Christmas Lecture/s will take place on Friday 13 December, from 13:30 pm and will include presentations from YPI academics on their research. The agenda will be as follows:

13:30 Welcome from YPI Director

13:40 Istvan Cziegler

14:00 Q&A

14:10 Andrew Higginbotham

14:30 Q&A

14:40 Tea and Coffee

15:00 James Dedrick

15:20 Q&A

15:30 PhD & Postdoc Plasma science demonstrations - followed by festive refreshments and Trash Santa.

We would like to give PhD students and Postdocs an opportunity to get involved in the YPI Christmas Lectures. We are looking to develop a plasma science demonstration. We would like to invite everyone to submit a presentation of a demonstration that they would be interested in developing. The structure of the presentation should include the following: Description of the activity and how it works, A demonstration if possible, What materials are needed and Costings. The activity can use new materials to create it or it can make use of equipment that we already have. Your only limitations are imagination! Please note the concept can be an individual's idea or it can be collaborative activity. Please let me know by Monday 9 December whether you have a demonstration to pitch, please also let me know if you require any equipment from the Outreach office to help to demonstrate.

The event will end with festive drinks and nibbles and Santa Trash. If you were not here last year, Santa Trash is an alternative to secret santa, "you find a suitable present for your recipient in your house - something you value and yet happy to give away, a gadget that has sat in your under-stairs cupboard for a decade, a house plant, or something you have created (like, art or craft work) - so that you won't have to spend a penny for the present!".

Thank you for your support
