Programme and module information
The links below provide a structural overview of the various Philosophy degree programmes. The available optional modules for 2026/27 are also listed in the programme details.
Students should also refer to the Philosophy Handbooks for undergraduates for additional information about the Philosophy Department and the joint degree programmes.
Note: Students taking degrees within the School of Philosophy, Politics and Economics, the School of Natural Sciences or the School for Business and Society should consult their own departments for module and programme information.

Requesting Philosophy optional module changes for 2026/27
Students wishing to change an allocated optional module for the 2026/7 year may now do so. The Philosophy Module Changes web pages contain information about the process and the deadline for requesting module changes.
Choosing Philosophy optional modules for 2027/28
In February 2027 students will choose their option modules for the academic year 2027/28. Details about the Philosophy modules that will be available and how to make your selections, including the deadline for making choices, will be made available to you nearer the time. In the meantime, please email philosophy@york.ac.uk if you have questions about selecting modules for the next academic year.
Elective modules for 2026/27
Students wishing to take an elective module in another department should first check the rules of their degree programme to see if they are allowed to take electives in other departments. The University of York offers Language Electives (YLEs), Interdisciplinary modules (YIMs) and general elective modules.
