The Baroness Hale Legal Clinic - Mission Statement

York Law School Clinic aims to enhance the education of our law students and promote justice.
We will achieve this by:

  • Providing free high-quality legal advice and information to members of the public, in particular those who cannot afford to pay for such services.
  • Providing our students with the opportunity to work on live cases thereby developing their skills and understanding of law in context.
  • Applying and developing innovative experiential learning and teaching methods.
  • Improving our students’ professional and ethical awareness, and instilling a lifelong commitment to access to justice for all.
  • Encouraging our students to become legal activists, using law and legal skills to promote justice, and developing innovative research related to access to justice and clinical legal education issues.

Climate justice pledge

Climate change is one of the most significant social justice issues we face. Its impacts will be felt most by the poorest and most vulnerable. As a student law clinic with a commitment to social justice, we commit to raising awareness of the issue of climate change in our teaching, research and activism; and to finding ways to support law students to contribute to the struggle for climate justice.
