Dr Mark Bennett
Research Fellow
I joined the University of York in March 2025 as a Research Fellow and member of the Core Team in the Administrative Fairness Lab.
I was previously a Lecturer in Law at Liverpool Hope University (2021-25) and, prior to this, completed a PhD at the University of Liverpool (2016-21), funded by the AHRC North West Consortium Doctoral Training Partnership.
My research interests lie primarily in the fields of UK constitutional and administrative law, counter-terrorism and security law, and human rights law.
I am currently working on a research project with Dr Jed Meers (University of York) and Professor Joe Tomlinson (King's College London) focused on the DWP's 'Targeted Case Review' scheme. This project - part of a collaboration between the Welfare Benefits Unit and the Administrative Fairness Lab, funded by the Legal Education Foundation - examines the roll out and claimant experiences of the scheme.
I am a Member of the Society of Legal Scholars and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. I was previously a Blog Manager of the UK Constitutional Law Association Blog (2021-25).
