Interactional Linguists network at the University of York

Posted on 10 March 2020

Interactional Linguistics from different countries meeting at the Department of Language and Linguistic Science

A group of Interactional Linguists from different countries are meeting regularly at the Department of Language and Linguistic Science (University of York) under the lead of Prof Paul Drew. This newly set up research network aims to enhance the sharing of knowledge in the field of Interactional linguistics and facilitate discussion of the research of members of the group.

"Joining the Interactional Linguists Network has significantly boosted my doctoral research. I have been accumulating countless notes and insights and making connections with different fields of study. Each meeting with the group is a captivating journey into social interaction across diverse languages and domains of human sociality, including ordinary as well as institutional settings. During our data sessions, we collectively achieve a deep understanding of each individual interactional episode, while at the same time discovering comparable patterns of linguistic structure and embodiment across different situations and ecologies of action, and across the different interactions we are studying in our respective languages."

The group consists of an international panel of researchers spanning across different continents.
