About the software
ZoomText Magnifier/Reader is an assistive software, which has integrated magnification and screen-reading functions, designed to support users with low vision conditions. It is produced by Freedom Scientific.
Obtaining the software
Classrooms
ZoomText is installed on the designated accessible PCs in IT Services managed PC classrooms.
Note: If you wish to use the screen reading feature, you will need to bring your own headphones, with a standard 3.5mm jack.
Staff devices
If you are a member of staff and require ZoomTextMagnifier/Reader or ZoomText Magnifier for your managed device, please contact itsupport@york.ac.uk to make your request.

Training
ZoomText provides user guides in both Word and PDF format in a variety of languages, which can be downloaded from their ZoomText User Guides webpage.
Freedom Scientific has a training page to support ZoomText users, with a getting started guide and also linking to FAQs, user tips and their own YouTube channel of instructional videos.
Support
The ZoomText User Guide (this links to the UK English PDF) covers all the features and settings in the software. If you have any difficulties with the running or installation of the software on a university managed device, please contact itsupport@york.ac.uk.
