Access Microsoft 365 apps

All University of York staff and students, including associates and distance learners, have free access to Microsoft 365 Enterprise apps (formerly known as Office). Apps include:

  • Access
  • Excel
  • OneNote
  • Outlook
  • PowerPoint
  • Publisher
  • Word
  • OneDrive (staff and managed laptops only)

How do I access Microsoft 365?

The University has a Microsoft 365 subscription for staff and students. You can access Microsoft 365 by either:

  • installing the apps on your device
  • opening the apps in a web browser (staff and managed laptops only)

Install Microsoft 365 on your device

University managed laptops* already have Microsoft 365 installed – simply search your device for the app you want to use. For University managed smartphones and tablets, please check your department’s policies before installing software.

You can install Microsoft 365 on up to five devices. (You must not install this Microsoft 365 subscription on shared devices or computer accounts.)

*Managed laptops using Azure have Microsoft 365 installed as standard. Find out how to tell if your laptop is managed by Azure.

Open Microsoft 365 in a web browser

If you are a member of staff, you can access Microsoft 365 apps from your web browser – all you need is an internet connection. (You can also access the apps in this way if you use a managed laptop.)

  1. Go to Microsoft 365 Online
  2. If you haven’t already, log in with your University email address, password and two factor authentication
  3. Open the app launcher to get started
