Exploring psychosocial support for siblings of children with life-limiting conditions

The experience of living with a child with a life-limiting condition (LLC) impacts on the psychological, emotional and social health of all family members, including siblings of affected children. However, there is a lack of understanding around interventions that aim to support sibling psychosocial health and prevent psychological difficulties developing. There are questions surrounding the effectiveness of specific interventions, the accessibility of interventions across different paediatric palliative care sites and stakeholders' perceptions and experiences of the range of psychosocial support that is currently implemented and accessed. Therefore, this PhD project will use a mixed-methods approach to review the research literature on the effectiveness of psychosocial interventions for siblings, map provision of sibling psychosocial support on a national level and explore siblings' perceptions and experiences of psychosocial support.  It is anticipated that the primary outcome of this PhD project will be a framework for improving access to support and increasing the effectiveness of psychosocial interventions for siblings of children with LLCs.
