Estimating Current and Future Prevalence of Life-Limiting Conditions in Children and Young People in the UK utilising multiple data sources

Using Clinical Practice Research Datalink and Hospital Episodes Data we will refine the current estimates of numbers and prevalence of children and young people (aged 0-25 years) with life-limiting conditions (LLC), taking advantage of the greater diagnostic detail available in the Read coding system used in primary care to more precisely identify those with LLC. We will then build a model to predict the future prevalence of children and young people with life-limiting conditions which will take account of expected changes in the underlying populations.

We will work closely with the The True Colours Trust and Together for Short Lives to ensure that we present our findings in a way that is useful for individual services as well as for national planning.
