Chronic pain presents a huge burden for both individuals and society. In the 2016 Global Burden of Disease Study, low back pain (LBP) without any diagnosed underlying medical condition is the leading cause for years lived with disability (YLDs) with an estimated cost of €57.6 million. Pain is associated with various mental disorders, especially major depression. The research team explores this in several projects.

With her team in the University of York, Christina explores the relationship between social exclusion and pain.
The aim of this qualitative evidence synthesis is to provide a comprehensive assessment of both patient and clinician perspectives towards health-care management of Fibromyalgia. By illuminating and exposing the narratives of both patients and clinicians it is hoped that the results of this review will identify areas for future research intervention and provide insight into how to achieve cohesion between patients and frontline clinicians.
