Promoting the life stories of older people in nursing care homes: A collaborative writing project between student nurses and care home residents

This is a collaborative writing project between nursing students on clinical placements in nursing care homes and care home residents. The aim is to facilitate engagement between student nurses and care home residents in the production of a book which is comprised of chapters telling the stories of individual care home residents. The book will have approximately 8 chapters, each written by a different student about a different resident. As such, the project encourages student nurses to engage with care home residents as individuals with life experiences and stories to tell rather than simply seeing the older person as they are now, in need of nursing care. This project is being evaluated to gather the experiences and perceptions of key stakeholders involved in the project, including student nurses, care home residents and their family and friends, care home managers and staff, and University staff.
