Since 1963, it has powered its way to a consistently high ranking in the UK and has also recently been ranked by the prestigious Times Higher Education (THE) Awards as the No. 1 University in the UK less than 50 years old and in the world top ten in their ‘100 under 50’ league table which ranks the world’s top universities. York’s continuing excellence is evidenced by consistent THE Awards, including University of the Year in 2010 and Widening Participation Initiative and Research Engineering Team of the Year in 2011. The University has also won five Queen’s Anniversary Awards for excellence in research. As well as these accolades, the University has joined the influential Russell Group of leading UK universities in recognition of our excellent research, outstanding teaching and learning, and the impact of our work with business and the public sector.

Dr Jane Grenville, the Deputy Vice Chancellor who is hosting Open Day, said, “It’s a very exciting time to join us. Students coming to York will benefit from an enormous investment in facilities, our excellent track record in research inspired teaching and a collegiate system which has been enhancing the value of a York education since our very beginning”.

Since 2000, the University has spent more than £750m on new buildings and improvements as part of its continued investment in a 21st century campus including the £20m University Library which was recently opened by the writer and York graduate, Anthony Horowitz.

In 2012 students will further benefit from the new 600-room Langwith College and the £9m York Sport Village with excellent facilities, including a competition- standard pool, learner pool, 100-station gym, full-size 3G astroturf pitch and three further five-a-side-pitches.
