York Hope Consortium Introductory Event

Thursday 20 January 2022, 5.00PM to 6:30 PM

Speaker(s): PhD Student Joseph Gascoigne

Please join us online this Thursday 20th January 2022 at 5pm for our Introductory Event- Possibilities of Hope: Politics, Citizenship and Social Change.

The event will take place on Zoom and will commence our 'Hope and Social Change' Symposium Series for the Interdisciplinary York Hope Consortium. It will comprise of a conversation between PhD Student Joseph Gascoigne and MA Student/ Research Assistant Melissa Williams. Both Jo and Mel have been closely involved with the 'Citizenship Futures- The Politics of Hope' Project, a global collaboration convened by Dr. Indrajit Roy.

Join Jo and Mel for this insightful event where they will explore political constructions of 'hope'- What does hope mean? What is the political importance of hope? What are sources of hope in seemingly 'hopeless' times? The discussion will be followed by a Q and A, where you can ask them about their understandings of 'hope' and its relevance to a world permeated by narratives of collapse, catastrophe and despair.
