Biography
I have been a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Professor in the Engineering Management group within the School of Physics, Engineering and Technology at the University of York since 1993. Prior to that I spent 18 years in Industry as an electronic design engineer, technical manager and programme manager for a number of different companies. In addition to lecturing and administration within the School, I carry our research into Engineering Education and Entrepreneurship.
Outside the School I am:
- Member of the International Advisory Board of the ITHET and EAEEIE Annual Conferences.
Past significant responsibilities include:
- Provost of Alcuin College from 2001 to 2015
- President of the European Association for Education in Electrical and Information Engineering for 6 years ending in 2012 – The EAEEIE is dedicated to supporting educators across the breadth and depth of the Electrical and Information Engineering disciplines.
- York Director of the White Rose Centre for Excellence in Teaching in Learning in Enterprise – The CETL was a £5m HEFCE funded initiative providing capital funds to establish an Enterprise Zone and recurrent funds over 5 years to take the enterprise agenda forward across all disciplines.
- Project Coordinator/Manager of the EU funded SALEIE Project
- External academic advisor to the Engineering Programme at the Open University, 2004 - 2015.
- Honorary Secretary of the York Philatelic Society (1998 – 2016) – Well everyone is allowed an anorak! Mine is the study of early Australian Commonwealth postage stamps. Please check out our website if you are interested.
