BA Philosophy

Year 1

Rules:

  • Students take 120 credits: 60 credits in each semester.
  • In S1 students take three x CORE Philosophy modules.
  • In S2 students take two x CORE Philosophy modules.
  • In S2 students take one x 20 credit Philosophy Optional Module (or alternatively replace this with an Elective or an LFA module).

Year 2

Rules:

  • 120 credits to be taken across the year, 60 credits in each semester.
  • During the second year students must take at least one module from band A, and at least one module from band B.
  • All students take PHI00124I Philosophy & Society CORE module in S2
  • Students may replace one x 20 credit optional module with an elective or a YLE module.

  • PHI00101H (40 credit) is an optional module and spans S1 and S2.
  • PHI00041H Short Dissertation (20 credit) is an optional module and may be taken in S1 or S2.
  • Students may replace up to 20 credits of optional modules with an elective or a YLE module

BA Philosophy (with a Year Abroad)

The Philosophy with a Year Abroad degree programme is structured the same, however students spend an additional year (after year 2) studying abroad at a host University (120 credits).  Students then return to York to complete their final year of study, choosing final year optional modules from the list above.
