BA Language, Logic and Communication

Year 1

Rules:

• Student take 120 credits: 60 credits in each semester.
• In S1 students take three x CORE modules.
• In S2 students take one x Philosophy CORE module PHI00005C Logic.
• In S2 students take one x Linguistics Option module and one x Philosophy Option module.    

Year 2

Rules:

• Students take 120 credits: 60 credits in each semester.
• In S1 LAN00069I Foundations of Meaning is CORE.
• In S1 PHI00121I Logic and Paradox is CORE.
• In S2 LAN00058I Linguistics as Data Science is CORE.

Year 2 Philosophy option modules

Year 3

Rules:

• Students take 120 credits: 60 credits in each semester.
• Students must take at least one PHI module and one LAN module in both S1 and S2.
• All Students take LAN00081H Linguistic Computations (CORE) 20 credits in S2.
• One Philosophy or LAN option module may be swapped for an elective or YIMS module.
• One 20-credit option module in S1 or S2 may be replaced by a YIMS or curated elective.
• At Stage 3 students may weight their final year as follows:
  60 credits of PHI modules and 60 credits of LAN modules, OR
  80 credits of PHI modules and 40 credits of LAN modules, OR
  40 credits of PHI modules and 80 credits of LAN modules.

Year 3 Philosophy option modules

Phil & Linguistics

BA Philosophy and Linguistics

Year 1

Rules:

• Students take 120 credits: 60 credits in each semester.
• In S1 students take three x CORE modules.
• In S2 students take one x Philosophy CORE module PHI00005C Logic.
• In S2 students take one x Linguistics Option module and one x Philosophy Option module.    

Year 2

Rules:

• Students take 120 credits: 60 credits in each semester.
• In S1 all students must take LAN00069I Foundations of Meaning CORE.
• Students must take one required LAN option in either S1 or S2 as shown below.
• Students must ensure that they take at least one PHI module in S1, and one LAN module in S2.
• Students may replace one 20-credit option with a YIM or general elective in either semester.
• At Stage 2 students will take 60 credits of LAN modules and 60 credits of PHI modules in total ie. 3 LAN modules and 3 PHI modules during the year.

Year 2 Philosophy option modules

Year 3

Rules:

• Students take 120 credits: 60 credits in each semester.
• Students must choose at least one Philosophy module and at least one Linguistics module in both S1 and S2.
• Students may replace one optional module with one YIM or elective in either semester.
• At Stage 3 students may weight their final year as follows:
  60 credits of PHI modules and 60 credits of LAN modules, OR
  80 credits of PHI modules and 40 credits of LAN modules, OR
  40 credits of PHI modules and 80 credits of LAN modules.

Year 3 Philosophy option modules

Phil Lang & Cultures

BA Philosophy with Languages and Cultures (with a Year Abroad)

(Available routes: French, German, Spanish and Italian)

Year 3 Abroad

Students will experience the teaching of Philosophy in another linguistic context and philosophical tradition. They will further their linguistic and communication skills in their language of study. To receive a ‘Pass’ for the year abroad, students will be assessed via the fulfilment of their learning agreement and two essays, one per semester, in which they will reflect on their studies and experience of another culture.

Year 4

Rules:

• Students take 120 credits: 60 credits in each semester.
• Students must take 40 credits in Language and Cultures modules, and 60 credits in Philosophy.
• The remaining 20 credits may be taken in either a further Philosophy Option Module or in a curated elective.

Year 4 Philosophy optional modules

Phil w Fre/Ger/Spa/Ita

BA Philosophy with French / German / Spanish or Italian (with a Year Abroad)

Year 1

Rules:

• 120 credits to be taken across the year, equating to three x 20 credit modules in each semester.
• Students take 40 credits of Languages (LAN) modules and 80 credits of Philosophy modules during the year.
• In S1 students take two x Philosophy CORE modules, PHI00008C Knowledge & Perception and PHI00015C Philosophical Analysis
• In S1 students take one x LAN CORE module from the choices below
• In S2 students take two x Philosophy CORE modules: PHI00005C Logic and PHI00007C Ethics
• In S2 students take one x LAN CORE module from the choices below.

Year 2

Rules:

• 120 credits to be taken across the year, equating to three x 20 credit modules in each semester
• In S1 students will take CORE (compulsory) modules Language and Cultures: Advanced Module.
• In S1 students will take two x 20 credit Philosophy option modules
• In S2 students will take one x LAN Languages option module
• In S2 will take two x 20 credit Philosophy option modules (one of these may be replaced by a YIMS or elective module)
