North Energy lead Work Package 8 on Sustainability Assessment, including preparation of MS Excel life cycle workbooks for assessing primary energy inputs and greenhouse gas emissions associated with proposed maize, miscanthus and sugar cane biorefineries.  Work by the University of Leeds covers qualitative assessment of other sustainability criteria for Europe and Brazil. Main aims are to determine the impacts of biofuels from integrated biorefineries, and to compare these with other biofuels and conventional fuels. Important issues for successful completion of this WP depend on timely flow of data and collaboration with other partners, and ongoing development of LCA and sustainability criteria.
