Norwegian Study Centre

Welcome to the Norwegian Study Centre (NSC), York

Well known and loved by generations of Norwegian students, the NSC is both a part of the University of York and an extension of Norwegian institutions of higher learning, established by the Norwegian government. Since the early 1980s, it has offered students, teachers and others not only high-quality teaching, but also an opportunity to immerse themselves in the language(s) and culture(s) of Britain.

Please explore our webpages to learn more about what we have to offer: primarily 1-2 week short courses arranged by your Norwegian institution, and for-credit studies over one or two semesters at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. If you have questions or would like to know more about us, just contact us: hopefully, we can help you.

See you in York soon!

Kjetil Myskja

Director of the NSC

What our students say

"If you are ever given the opportunity to attend a semester or two here, do it."

CORONAVIRUS UPDATE: The United Kingdom is still experiencing too high infection rates for the Norwegian government to allow quarantine free travel, so both the YorkCourse and short courses will be run online.  The NSC's building is for the time being not open to students. Please see the University's COVID-19 page for updated information. We cannot at present say whether our spring courses (both YorkCourse and shorth courses) will be face-to-face or online.
For information about our online short courses, please contact Beck.Sinar@york.ac.uk. For information about the spring YorkCourse, please check our YorkCourse application pages, or contact terry.hathaway@york.ac.uk  or director-nsc@york.ac.uk.
We strongly encourage you to apply regardless of whether you prefer face-to-face or online teaching: if  you cannot accept an admission to the course in the form it will eventually be given, you simply refuse the offer of a place on the course.
