Event details

Experience the Young Archaelogists’ Club’s exciting project, Tactile Mapping at YorNight. Designed to highlight the needs of blind and partially sighted members of the community in York, these three ‘tactile’ historic maps show York through the Roman, early medieval and industrial periods. We aim to encourage involvement with history by removing barriers to engagement that some groups face. A fantastic event for all the family; experience York as you never have before!

The design of these maps was informed by the York Blind and Partially Sighted Society and The Wilberforce Trust. Construction was done by members of the York YAC branch with support from volunteers from the University of York. This has been supported by visual impairment training from The Wilberforce Trust.

The project is funded by: the Yorkshire Architectural and York Archaeological Society; CBA Yorkshire Rotary Club of York Ainsty; University of York Student Union Community Fund; and Paraboloidal Management and Consultancy Ltd.
