Cheese-story: A short history of alpine diary

Over history, cheese (yes cheese!) has helped to shape the landscape and society of Alpine communities. Traditional cheeses, like fontina and tome, are a great part of the cultural heritage of the Alps. But why is their history so influential in the evolution of Alpine society? Come to discover a history of alpine dairy, from ancient small scale production to modern companies, like Nestlé and Kraft.

PROteINSECT: Enabling the exploitation of insects as a sustainable source of protein for animal feed and human nutrition

Food security is a global challenge. As overall demand for food, particularly meat, increases there is an urgent need to increase the supply of protein from sustainable sources. Insects, especially flies, have the potential to help meet this demand.

Bones, boils and daily bread

Get the chance to learn from experts how they read the tell-tale signs of diet and disease on human bones. Meet skeletons from different periods and investigate the past by analysing how teeth and bones were changed by disease and diet.

Chicken nuggets: A history of York in half a dozen eggs

Why did the chicken cross the globe? Due to human intervention! Therefore, we can learn a lot about human history through studying theirs. This event will show, using archaeology and other disciplines, the social, cultural and environmental impact of this important species. Drop by our interactive exhibition to take part in iPad quizzes, play with interactive magnetic display boards and chat with our researchers.
