Event details

Do you know how many languages are spoken in the City of York? This interactive talk intends to allow you to explore some of the work done on trying to find out. We will also then pose the question: should you be able to tell what languages are spoken in a city? Should the authorities make an effort to make visible the linguistic heritages of the city’s residents? We will then have a look at how much this is done in York and in what ways before considering what heritages and identities may be hidden and invisible in the city we live in. Considering those hidden stories, we will introduce you to an ongoing project and let you know how you could become more involved or learn more.
