Biography

Yuanxin Chen

Visiting PhD Researcher

Yuanxin Chen is a third-year PhD candidate in Legal Theory at Tongji University Law School, Shanghai. She is currently a CSC (China Scholarship Council)-funded Visiting Researcher at York Law School, University of York, hosted by Professor Phillip Morgan, from September 2026 to March 2027. Her academic background combines legal theory with systems theory approaches to regulation, and her work has been published in CSSCI-indexed journals in China.

Research

Overview

Yuanxin's doctoral research examines the normative effectiveness of technical standards in AI governance, drawing on systems theory frameworks — particularly Niklas Luhmann's structural coupling and reflexive law theory, alongside general systems theory (Bertalanffy) — to analyse how technical standards function as regulatory mechanisms. Her broader research interests span comparative AI law and regulation across the EU, US, UK, and China.
