Biography

James Webster joined York Law School in 2022, their intellectual precocity and academic drive quickly distinguishing them in the undergraduate programme, and aiding their direct transition into doctoral research in 2025 at the age of 21.

Their PhD thesis explores the intersection of constitutional governance, digital-twin technology and urban development - a pioneering field which seeks to redefine how public law responds to nascent technologies in complex social environments. Under the guidance of Dr. Hamid Younesi and Professor TT Arvind, James is currently specifying his thesis' organising lens and beginning to draft the initial chapters, but ultimately hopes to shape discourse around these subjects and position their work at the forefront of global debates on technology and governance.

Aspiring to be a prodigious legal thinker, James demonstrates an ability to bridge theory and practice. Their vision is to craft innovative legal frameworks for the commercial deployment of AI technologies which balance innovation with constitutional safeguards to ensure both economic progress and democratic accountability.

Beyond their doctoral research, James wishes to present their findings at academic conferences, contribute to interdisciplinary collaborations, and publish original literature which is cited by peers in law and technology around the globe. Furthermore, he aspires to attain special commendations for research excellence and contribute to student-led legal initiatives.
