The York Law School Mooting Society

Our Mooting Society was established in 2010 to oversee the Law School’s involvement in regional and national mooting competitions. The Society aims to host mooting events within the Law School, to arrange mooting events with other universities, and to help law students participate in national mooting competitions.

Ebor Lex

Ebor Lex is the Official Journal of the University of York Law Society. The journal is produced termly, and publishes articles from students on any legal topic. We welcome submissions from all students, regardless of your previous writing experience or degree studied. Contributing to Ebor Lex can be an invaluable opportunity for students looking to develop their writing skills and understanding of areas of law outside of their curriculum.

Law Society

The Law Society is one of the largest and most popular societies at the University of York, dedicated to providing students who wish to pursue a career in the legal profession with a range of opportunities to boost their employability. We have worked hard to build relationships with some of the most successful, innovative and prestigious law firms from around the word; and we work closely with this network to hold a number of networking, skills and presentation events at York over the course of the academic year. Becoming a Law Society member will give you the chance to meet with these firms face to face, to put yourself out there as an aspiring lawyer as well as to gain a real insight into what being a lawyer is all about.

We go far beyond promoting careers in commercial law. Our Bar Society has been shortlisted as one of the best in the country for aspiring barristers, and our Mooting Society provides members with a fantastic opportunity to develop advocacy skills. Furthermore, our Law Journal, Ebor Lex, provides our members with a fantastic outlet for academic writing on issues that they are passionate about. In addition to all of this, we also work closely with ‘Aspiring Solicitors’ to promote diversity in the profession.
