Autumn Term Departmental Colloquium Series

Posted on 14 September 2022

Our Colloquium Series in linguistics is back!

The Department of Language and Linguistic Science is delighted to announce new events as part of its popular Colloquium Series in linguistics.

This year’s events are organised by Dr Catherine Laing (Lecturer in Developmental Linguistics) who will also host and facilitate the Q&A session.

The colloquium is making a return to in-person talks, with some events happening online so speakers can join us from further afield! Talks will be held on Wednesdays at 3pm, and are aimed at both a specialist and non-specialist linguistic audience – everyone is invited!

Below is a provisional schedule of events and speakers:

  • 05/10/2022    Alice Turk (Edinburgh)
  • 12/10/2022    Andrea Nini (Manchester)
  • 19/10/2022    Christina Sevdali (Ulster)*
  • 26/10/2022    Matthew Mak (York)
  • 09/11/2022    Derek Denis (Toronto)*
  • 16/11/2022    Oliver Niebuhr (Southern Denmark)*
  • 23/11/2022    Paul Kerswill (York)
  • 30/11/2022    Giulia Bovolenta (York)

Talks marked * take place on Zoom. All others will take place on campus, in room C/A/101 (Chemistry Building, Campus West).

I'm really excited about this diverse set of talks, which represents just some of the key areas of Linguistics, including psycholinguistics, syntax and forensic linguistics. Look out for further updates about Spring term talks soon! - Dr Catherine Laing, Department of Language and Linguistic Science
