Cross departmental research projects in York have been awarded a British Academy and a University of York’s internal impact funding grants

The Department of Language and Linguistic Science is delighted to announce that Dr Catherine Laing (PI) and Prof Tamar Keren-Portnoy (co-I) have recently been awarded two grant awards for the following projects:

A British Academy Grant to investigate "Babble development and caregiver speech in English and Ugandan babies", in collaboration with Katie Slocombe, Department of Psychology, University of York.

A University of York internal impact funding award to explore the "To and Fro Approach", a new method to improve language skills in children at risk of later speech and language needs by focussing on parents' existing communication strengths, in collaboration with Catherine Pape, Specialist Speech & Language Therapist (Powys) and Director, To and Fro CiC.

“We are delighted to have been awarded these grants, which allow us to form new academic and external partnerships with our collaborators. The projects will have important benefits for the field in terms of how we understand early interactions between infants and caregivers across cultures and populations.
