Language and Linguistic Science alumni back in York to participate in The LLS Alumni Event 2020

On Friday 28th February 2020 the Department of Language and Linguistic Science hosted its yearly event ‘The Alumni Event: What can you do with a degree in Language and Linguistics?’ to showcase to current students the range of different career paths open to language and linguistics graduates. For the event,  LLS alumni Katie Mapp, Tamsin Brown and Jacob Peatfield returned to York to share their experiences and to present how their degree helped them to shape their current career paths.

The one-hour alumni panel presentation was followed by a very lively Q&A and networking session attended by teaching staff, alumni, PG and UG students, from any year or degree.

"The alumni event was a great networking event for me as a speaker but also for the students. As a languages student I remember feeling that I didn’t fully understand my opportunities. So to come back to York and help students in that situation was extremely rewarding." - Jacob Peatfield, LLS Alumni

The Alumni Event 2020’s guest speakers were:

  • Katie Mapp (2016 BA French & Linguistics), now Digital Communications Officer at Yorkshire Wildlife Trust
  • Tamsin Brown (2014 BA English Language & Linguistics), now Portfolio Analyst at HM Revenue & Customs
  • Jacob Peatfield (2018 BA Spanish & Italian), now Premium Fashion Graduate Programme at JD Sports Fashion
