National Student Survey 2019

Posted on 5 July 2019

We’re delighted to have some of the happiest French, Italian, Spanish and Linguistics students in the UK.

The Department of Language and Linguistic Science has received 94% for 'Overall Satisfaction' for Linguistics, 91% for French, 91% for Italian, and 90% for Spanish in the 2019 National Student Survey (NSS).

The NSS is a nationwide survey of final-year students in higher and further education that encourages them to give honest feedback about a variety of aspects of their university experience, including their department and course. This helps prospective students to make informed choices and also influences real change in future students’ experiences, from institution-level to course-level.

The University as a whole was rated highest of the Russell Group universities in the survey for overall satisfaction.

The Department placed first in the surveyed Russell Group universities for 'Learning Community' in French, Italian and Spanish Studies. We also achieved over 90% satisfaction in six of the assessed areas:

  • Teaching on my course (French 91%, German 93%, Linguistics 90%)
  • Learning opportunities (German 98%, Italian 91%)
  • Academic support (French 92%)
  • Learning Resources (Italian 91%)
  • Learning Community (French 91%, Italian 100%)
  • Overall Satisfaction (Linguistics 94%, French 91%, Italian 91%, Spanish 90%)
