Story of Things Podcast on Forensic Linguistics

Posted on 13 June 2018

Vincent Hughes and Professor Peter French discuss the challenges of using technology in criminal conviction cases in a new podcast.

The Story of Things podcast shines a spotlight on current research at the University of York. The new series explores how research at York has changed how we think about and interact with the world around us. In episode 3, Story of Voice, Dr Penny Spikins talks to our own Dr Vincent Hughes and Professor Peter French about voice recognition. They talk about different methods for analysing voices in legal cases, and some of the problems associated with the voice as a form of forensic evidence. They also discuss the findings of the AHRC-funded project, Voice and Identity: Source, Filter, Biometric, and outline the implications of their research for forensic practice.
