Professor Peter French gave the third annual Babel lecture at the University of Huddersfield on 12 May. The talk, which was open to the public and attended by an audience of approximately 200, was entitled 'Their own tongues speak against them: Phonetics in the criminal justice system'.

Using audio samples from real cases, Peter illustrated the variety of work carried out by forensic speech scientists, including speaker profiling, forensic voice comparison, and the resolution of disputed content in speech recordings.
