Provocative talk for discriminating language users

Posted on 31 October 2016

LingSoc co-hosts language and discrimination event

York's Linguistics Society, in collaboration with the university's Feminist Society, organised a discussion panel on the theme of language and discrimination. The invited panelists were Helen Saunston (York St. John University), former Language and Linguistic Science student Kwame Boateng Sekyere (now studying for an MSc in Human Rights at LSE), and our own Caitlin Light, who teaches a popular undergraduate module on the topic of language and discrimination. Further information about the issues discussed by panel members can be found here. Given the subject matter, lively and thought-provoking debate was of course guaranteed!
