Further successes for research postgraduates

Posted on 25 April 2016

Higher degrees awarded to two former MSc in Forensic Speech Science students

Two of our research postgraduates, Kim Wilson and Jessica Wormald, have had their viva voce examinations this week, and will graduate in July with an MPhil and a PhD respectively.

Kim has been researching the principles and methods of language analysis for determination of origin (LADO), which is used as part of the procedures used to assess the validity of asylum claims, while Jess's work concerns the phonetic characteristics of Panjabi-accented English in the cities of Bradford and Leicester. Their respective external examiners were Dr. Tina Cambier-Langeveld, of the Netherlands Ministry of Justice's Immigration and Naturalisation Service, and Prof. Jane Stuart-Smith, of the University of Glasgow.‌
