Aims

The aim of the course is three-fold:

  • to introduce scientific methodology employed in Syntax
  • to introduce a theoretical framework within which syntactic investigation can be undertaken
  • to begin to develop skills in data analysis and syntactic argumentation.

Contact hours

The course lasts for one term and is taught for three compulsory contact hours per week.

Teaching programme

The course will cover the core elements of syntactic systems, and the operations that manipulate them, concentrating on the structure of the clause.

You will be expected to complete work outside of class time, which may include collaborative work with colleagues. Reading is essential, as well as completing all weekly assigned exercises. Expect to spend a minimum of ten hours per week on this module.
