Peking University Summer School Returns

Posted on 4 September 2015

This summer we were delighted to welcome back Professor Ding Ning and students from Peking University.

The History of Art Department has been honoured to play a significant part in this third visit to the University of the Peking University Summer School.

The visit was organised by the Centre for Global Programmes to introduce students from China to Britain's rich and diverse artistic and cultural heritage.  Students were given a tour of York Minster by PhD student Hilary Moxon, while Dr Anthony Geraghty led a trip to the Bowes Museum at Castle Barnard.  Professor Liz Prettejohn gave a keynote lecture and PhD student Rachel Smith guided a tour of Tate Britain.

Professors Michael White and Liz Prettejohn took the Summer School to Liverpool to see The Walker Art Gallery and Tate Liverpool.  Students also visited the National Gallery, The British Museum, Fairfax House and Fountains Abbey before moving onto Edinburgh.

The Department's links with the prestigious Peking University have strengthened over the last few years, with Professor Michael White visiting China for the second time in April and being made an Honourary Visiting Professor, and also this being the fourth time we have had the privilege of hosting a visit from Professor Ding Ning.  We look forward to further developing our relationship in the future!
