The Centre for Health Research Inclusion champions health and care research that is inclusive and representative of all groups in a diverse society. Many communities – whether defined by ethnicity, disability, gender identity, geography, age, or socioeconomic background – have historically been left out of research and continue to be underserved by research. This leads to gaps in knowledge and evidence, and health inequalities. We provide support and training to help research teams embed equity and inclusion in their projects.
We commit to conducting equitable health and care research that addresses barriers to the inclusion of underrepresented groups, ensuring that opportunities to participate are available to all groups fairly – not equally but based on need and context.
We cultivate environments where all individuals and communities feel valued, respected, and empowered to contribute meaningfully to our research.
We embrace diversity in all its forms – including race, ethnicity, gender, disability, geography, lived experience, and disciplinary perspective – as essential to excellence in health and care research.
We believe that inclusive health and care research requires partnership – across sectors, disciplines, and communities – grounded in trust, reciprocity, and shared decision-making.
We uphold transparency, accountability, and ethical rigour in all research processes, ensuring that EDI principles guide both our actions and outcomes.
We commit to continuous learning, humility, and reflexivity – recognising that inclusion and equity are evolving practices requiring ongoing growth.
