Mentor to Practice Assessor & Supervisor Transition

Practice Assessor and Supervisor transition training is required for staff that have undertaken a previous mentorship qualification. The PAN Midlands, Yorkshire and East Practice Learning Group (MYEPLG) have developed an online training package to support your transition training and this will now replace the face-to-face sessions.

Following completion of the training package your knowledge will be assessed via a quiz. A pass rate of 80% or above is required to obtain your certificate. For staff accessing the training who are employed by an NHS Trust, you will be required to submit your certificate to your Practice Education Team for it to be recorded. For Private, Independent and Voluntary Organisations, please email your certificate to dohs-pll@york.ac.uk. Failure to submit your certificate will mean that you are not recorded as a Practice Assessor.

Practice Supervisor Preparation

Every registered nurse is expected to attend suitable preparation to act as a Practice Supervisor in accordance with the NMC Code (2015, revised 2018). Other registered healthcare professionals are also eligible to act as a Practice Supervisor to student nurses and are very welcome to attend the Practice Supervisor Preparation training.

The PAN Midlands, Yorkshire and East Practice Learning Group (MYEPLG) have developed an online training package to provide Practice Supervisor training and this will now replace the face-to-face sessions.

Following completion of the training package your knowledge will be assessed via a quiz. A pass rate of 80% or above is required to obtain your certificate. For staff accessing the training who are employed by an NHS Trust, you will be required to submit your certificate and a learning activity of an Episode of Care to your Practice Education Team to gain registration. For Private, Independent and Voluntary Organisations, please email your certificate to dohs-pll@york.ac.uk. Failure to submit your certificate will mean that you are not registered as a Practice Supervisor.

Practice Assessor Preparation (PAP)

This training is available for Practice Supervisors who wish to upskill to the role of Practice Assessor. This training has been developed by the MYENEE Regional Practice Learning Group and should be completed online. The training will take approximately 10hours and can be completed over a maximum of 6 months.

To access the training via our University of York platform, staff will need to support our student placements and be part of the following Trusts/ Organisations:

• York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trusts
• Harrogate Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trusts
• The Haxby Group
• Tees Esk and Wear Valley NHS Foundation Trust
• Leeds York Partnership NHS Trust
• Any of our Private, Independent and Voluntary Organisations supporting University of York nursing and midwifery students (including nursing associates).

To apply for access to PAP training, please apply directly through your Practice Education Team for NHS staff. For Private, Independent and Voluntary Organisations, please contact dohs-pll@york.ac.uk for further information on how to apply.

Once your application has been processed, you will be sent the training workbook via email. Following completion, the workbook activities (Notepad) must be sent to dohs-pll@york.ac.uk. A certificate to confirm completion of training will then be provided.
