Ted Hewitt
Lecturer in Child Nursing

Profile

Biography

Ted trained as a general nurse before specialising in children’s nursing, specifically cardiac and respiratory intensive care. He worked in a number of units, mainly in London, before relocating to York to take up his current lecturing role.

He has an ongoing interest in caring for children in intensive care settings and combines this with a teaching focus on pathophysiology and pharmacology in child health, as well as exploring the psycho-social features of healthcare needs in children, young people and their families.

Part of Ted's role entails lecturing in evidence-based practice and research to undergraduate students and post-registration healthcare staff and this has led to an interest in philosophy, especially around knowledge and the apparent tensions between empirical research evidence and practice experiential knowledge.
