Matthew has worked in the field of Higher Education for the large part of his career. After initially working in Social Work, his career moved into Higher Education working as a Careers Officer for both Northumbria University and the University of Newcastle, before working as Senior University Administrator (Student Experience, Clinical Placements, Audits and Student Records) in the School of Health and Social Care at the University of Teesside. Following a brief spell working as Psychiatric Medical Education Coordinator for Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust, Matthew joined the University of York, Department of Health Sciences in 2005.
Matthew leads the Department's Student and Academic Services team and is administrative lead for admissions and student recruitment, student funding and finance, student record, enrolment and registration, student support, welfare and guidance and professional issues, pertaining to students on UGT, PGT, PGR and SSPRD programmes. Matthew has a strong background in working in policy developments, in particular relating to fitness to practise and the student experience. Matthew is passionate about student wellbeing issues and is an active member of a number of national and government organisations involved in improving the overall student journey.
