Biography

Matthew has worked in the Higher Education Sector for the majority of his career. After initially studying Social Work, his career moved into Higher Education working as a Careers Information and Advisory Officer for both Northumbria University and the University of Newcastle, before working as Senior University Manager (Student Experience, Clinical Placements, Clinical Educational Audits and Student Records) in the School of Health and Life Sciences at Teesside University. Following a brief spell working as Medical Education Lead for Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust, Matthew joined the University of York, Department of Health Sciences.

Reporting directly to the Deputy Head of Faculty Operations & the Departments Senior Leadership Team, Matthew provides strategic and operational leadership to a large team of 30+ professional support staff covering five key teams - Student and Academic Support Service (SASS), Programmes Office (PO), Practice Education Support Team (PEST), Quality Assurance and E-Learning Development.

Matthew's main role in the Department is to provide leadership to the teaching & learning support teams and to influence and inform local, regional and national strategy through external professional bodies, PSRB's and NHS Organisations. Matthew has an extensive range of professional experience working in policy and strategic developments, in particular relating to Practice Placements; Student Conduct, Discipline and Behaviour; Regulatory Affairs and the Student Experience. Matthew is passionate about student health and well being issues and is involved in the development and improvement of the overall student experience for all of our students and learners.
