Profile

Biography

Emma joined the York Trials Unit in June 2017 as a Trial Support Officer, after recently achieving an MA in Social Research Methods (Sociology) and a BSc (Hons) in Sociology. Before returning to her studies, Emma worked for nearly three years in the Health Services Research Unit at the University of Aberdeen. Emma began working as a Research Fellow (Trial Coordinator) in May 2025. During her time in the Unit, Emma has worked on a range of projects in both NHS and school settings.

• ACTIVE – A RCT assessing the effectiveness of internal plate fixation versus external fine wire fixation for the management of Type C, closed pilon fractures of the distal tibia
• PORTRAIT - an RCT investigating whether pain and quality of life are improved with post-operative radiotherapy compared to no radiotherapy and whether radiotherapy reduces the likelihood of further surgery in the future
