We pride ourselves on offering quality, bespoke support for all our PGCE Beginning Teachers.
You'll receive individual mentoring from our university lead tutors and associate tutors at the University throughout your training.
While on placement in schools, you'll be given a school-based Professional Tutor (secondary) and a school-based Subject/Phase Mentor.
The school-based Professional Tutor is a senior member of school staff who has overall responsibility for the management and delivery of the training and education you will receive in school. The school-based mentor is a member of staff in the same curriculum/phase area as you who has responsibility for lesson observations, individual advice, bespoke feedback and liaising with the University tutors on your progress. Your school-based Subject/Phase Mentor is your first point-of-contact in schools and you will be able to speak with them informally on a daily basis as necessary. There is a formal meeting with your school-based Subject/Phase Mentor once a week throughout your placement to reflect on your progress and support you in your ongoing training development as a new teacher.
In addition to mentoring from PGCE colleagues, you will have ongoing support from your peers as you learn and go on school placements together.
As a member of the University of York you will also have access to the support and advice offered by the Student Hub and the York SU.
