Gender-Based Violence in Higher Education: Rethinking Institutional Responses.

Posted on 12 September 2025

The latest episode of The Sexual Violence Research Podcast from the SVRI is out now.

Dr Anna Bull is interviewed on the latest episode of The Sexual Violence Research Podcast.

Universities and colleges are meant to be spaces of learning, growth, and opportunity. Yet for many, they can also be environments where sexual and gender based violence occurs and is left unaddressed. Power imbalances, entrenched hierarchies, and lack of oversight means survivors are often silenced while perpetrators go unchallenged.
In this episode, host Ayesha Mago, Global Advocacy Director of the Sexual Violence Research Initative (SVRI) is joined by Dr Anna Bull, Senior Lecturer of Education and Social Justice at the University of York and Director of The 1752 Group, a UK-based organisation dedicated to ending sexual misconduct in higher education, to explore the prevalence of sexual and gender-based violence in higher education settings, and what more needs to be done to ensure these institutions are safe and equitable.
