Black and Minority Ethnic staff and students

Staff and students in Education come from a range of different countries and cultural, linguistic and faith backgrounds and we thrive as a result of our international community. As a Department, we are committed to ensuring that BME (Black and Minority Ethnic) staff and students from all backgrounds feel welcome and supported during their time at York. As part of our Athena SWAN Silver strategy we are extending our equality and diversity work to adopt an intersectional focus, including a central concern with systemic barriers related to race and ethnicity.

The University of York’s Staff Race Equality Forum was relaunched in early 2017. If you wish to get involved, please contact Chair, Dr Rukmal Abeysekera (rukmal.abeysekera@york.ac.uk) or Deputy Chair, Dr Avtar Matharu (avtar.matharu@york.ac.uk) or complete the Staff Race Equality Forum form.
