Exploring the ‘Work First’ Approach in China’s Youth-Oriented Active Labour Market Policy Measures
The study navigates and interprets the functioning of active labour market policy measures in China.
With a focus in the East Asian context, Chenlan is interested in investigating the labour market policy and social security schemes. She conducts comparative social policy analysis for informing policy design, implementation, and learning. Chenlan mainly employs the qualitative research method. In her PhD study, Chenlan expects to examine the functioning of labour market policies in China for preparing people for decent work.
Prior to her PhD study, Chenlan completed the BA (Hons) in Education at the University of Birmingham, UK. Then, she obtained the MSocSci in Comparative Social Policy from Lingnan University, Hong Kong. During the master study, Chenlan conducted a comparative qualitative analysis on labour market policies in Greater China to interpret convergences and divergences of policy ideas and design. Chenlan worked as a research assistant in Lingnan University, Hong Kong, before her PhD study.
