Gary Brannan has been appointed as the new Keeper of Archives and Special Collections at the University of York.

Gary is currently our Acting Keeper of Archives, and has been Access Archivist here since 2014. Prior to this, Gary worked at West Yorkshire Archive Service as E Services Co-ordinator and Archivist at the Wakefield office.

At a broad level, Gary's remit will cover leadership of the Borthwick Institute for Archives, the Rare Books collection, the University Art Collection, and the York Minster library service.

Gary has a long relationship with York, gaining an undergraduate degree in History here and experience as an Archives Trainee at the Borthwick - giving him the unique distinction of being one of the last people to work in our old building at St Anthony’s Hall and one of the first to work in our new building following our move to Heslington in 2005.

If you’d like to know more about who has headed the Borthwick over the years, you can find out more here; and if you would like to know more about our work, you can get in touch via gary.brannan@york.ac.uk or via @gbrannanarchive on Twitter.
