A number of our archives have dedicated search tools:
A searchable catalogue of cases heard in the Church Courts of the diocese of York, 1300-1858.
These records offer an extremely valuable resource for family and local historians and scholars interested in social, ecclesiastical, economic and legal history.
Findmypast now contains entries from both our Parish Registers and Probate/Marriage bond collections (the latter formerly available via British Origins):
Over 3.2 million entries from the historic Parish Registers and Bishops' transcripts which we care for are available online in conjunction with www.findmypast.co.uk
The entries include indexed images of registers of baptism, marriage and burial from over 350 parishes from Yorkshire and beyond, spanning over 450 years of history. The collection also includes entries from our Bishops' transcripts collection, and so includes copies of parish entries from the whole of Yorkshire.
Access to findmypast.co.uk is free of charge on-site at the Borthwick and many other local libraries.
A full list of the items that are available online: Findmypast spreadsheet
A great resource for family historians and other researchers, our probate indexes and marriage bonds are searchable through the National Wills Index and British Origins.
Currently available online:
This project is on-going, and more index material for the Prerogative and Exchequer courts is being prepared to complete the series.
A number of documents from the Lascelles Barbados Papers have been photographed and fully transcribed and are available to view online.
A searchable database provides access to information on nearly 500 other documents.
Some of our collections are available to browse and download through York Digital Library.
