The Department of Biology is committed to ensuring risks associated with all work equipment is managed effectively by appropriate procurement, use and disposal to avoid harm to workers and, or, the environment.

The following sets out departmental policy and guidance on safe management of work equipment that could present a risk to both health and safety, implementing the requirements of the University Policy and Management Procedure for work equipment.

Measures taken to manage the health and safety issues associated with work equipment in the Department aim to be proportional to the level of risk, with a greater focus on the most hazardous work equipment capable of causing significant harm and injury.

Requirements for work equipment will be clearly communicated to all relevant workers to ensure an understanding of responsibilities.
