Cleaner role

Main responsibilities

  • To carry out general cleaning duties, to the required standard and in accordance with agreed service levels.
  • Ensure that cleaning materials and equipment are used in a safe, efficient and cost-effective way
  • Occasional movement of furniture as required
  • Maintain cleanliness of fixtures and fittings as required
  • Ensure that all lights are switched off and windows closed and locked as appropriate

Qualifications and experience

  • Essential: In a similar or manual role. Awareness of Health & Safety regarding the use of chemicals and safe methods of working.
  • Desirable: British Institute of Cleaning Sciences Certificate, (BICSc). IOSH Working Safely Certificate.

Skills

  • Essential: Ability to follow instruction and to work as part of a team. Good communication skills to enable interaction with staff, students and conference guests. The ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, managers and customers, and to receive and understand instruction. Ability to carry out significant manual handling duties such as carrying heavy bundles of linen and using heavy floor cleaning machinery. Clean and tidy appearance. Ability to undertake training courses and reach the required standard. To be flexible with working hours particularly during conference periods.
  • Desirable: A general understanding of cleaning materials, equipment and procedures. Customer Care Certificate.
