Welcome to Open Day

Saturday October 1, 2011

It’s an incredibly exciting time to come to the University of York. We are Times Higher Education University of the Year, recognition of our drive to combine academic excellence with social inclusion and for our strengths across the disciplines. We are among the UK’s top universities, and ranked in the world top 100. I hope York will feature in your plans as you make your UCAS application later in the year.

If you come to York you will benefit from huge investment in facilities: over the last couple of years, the University has spent more than £200m on expansion and improvements as part of our continued investment in a 21st century campus. New for 2012 will be a 600-room college and the York Sports Village. Its top-class facilities will include a competition-standard pool, learner pool, 100-station gym, full-size 3G astroturf pitch and three further five‑a‑side‑pitches.

We hope you will get a real flavour of our outstanding academic reputation and research credentials as well as our impressive campus with easy access to the historic and vibrant city of York. Open Day is a great chance for you to find out all about the University and we are ready to answer your questions and open your eyes to the opportunities we can offer you. As Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Students my responsibility is to look after student welfare and student engagement issues and that starts right now, with you as prospective students making important choices about your futures. Today is designed to help you with those choices, and I hope you get everything you want out of your time with us.

Enjoy your day!

Jane Grenville
Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Students

My proudest moment at York has been to go straight into a graduate job. Using all the skills I had learned I received more than one job offer and was able to pick the role that was right for me

I decided I wanted to come to York on an Open Day, when I got the feeling that I could really settle here. It is so friendly. I decided to study environment as it was an up-and-coming area, and seemed like a challenge. I also gave me the chance to be in a multi-disciplinary course with a good choice of modules
